Indian Navy Recruitment for sailors (Artificer Apprentice) was notified last year in an Indian Navy Notification 2018. According to the latest Notice, the Indian navy Exam for Feb 2019 batch of sailors Artificer Apprentice post will take place this year. after completing the initial training of 9 Weeks, Followed by further professional Training the Navy Guarantee you an Engagement period of 20 Years. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • You are an unmarried male candidate
  • Qualified in 10+2 examination with 60% or more marks in aggregate with Maths & Physics and at least one of these subjects - Chemistry/Biology/Computer Science from the Boards of School Education recognized by MHRD, Govt. of India.
  • You are born between 01 Feb 1999 to 31 Jan 2002 (Both dates inclusive).

Exam Pattern & Selection Process

The Selection Process for Indian Navy will be based on th order of Merit of your performance in computer-based Examination, Qualifying Physical fitness Test and fitness in Medical Examination.

Computer-based Examination.

  • The question paper will be Based on a total of 100 questions, Each Carrying 01 Mark.
  • The Question paper will be bilingual (Hindi & English) and objective type (Multiple Choice)
  • Question Paper standard will be that of 10+2.
  • The candidate is Required to clear Sectional and Overall Cut Offs (to be decided by Indian Navy later)
  • For every incorrect Answer, 0.25 Marks will be deducted  to that question as Penalty

Physical Fitness Test (PFT):

(a) Qualifying in Physical Fitness Test is mandatory for selection.

(b) PFT will consist of:

  • 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes
  • 20 squat ups (Uthak Baithak)
  • 10 Push-ups.

Advisory - Proficiency in sports, swimming and extra-curricular activities is desirable.

Medical Standards:

(a) Medical examination will be conducted by authorized military doctors as per medical standard prescribed in current regulations applicable to sailors on entry.

(b) Minimum height - 157 cms and minimum chest expansion - 5 cms. Weight and Chest should be proportionate.

Final Medical Examination of all selected candidates will be done at INS Chilka. Candidates who are found medically fit in Final Medical Examination will be enrolled. Initial Medical Examination for recruitment will be considered only “Provisionally fit subject to fitness in the final medical examination”. Candidates who are found medically unfit will be advised to appeal against its findings, if they so desire, at INHS Kalyani, Visakhapatnam within a maximum period of 21 days.


Permanent body tattoos permitted - On the inner face of forearms i.e from inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reversed side of palm/ back (dorsal) side of the hand.
Permanent body tattoos not permitted - On any other part of the body. If found, you will be barred from recruitment.

  • If you are an already registered candidate, your personal, education and communication particulars need to be updated. Otherwise, you might not be able to see the online application in the “Current Opportunity” section.
  • You can register either (i) With Aadhaar or (ii) Without Aadhaar. Aadhaar option is for a simplified application process.
  • Follow these steps to apply:
  • Log-in with the registered E-mail ID and Click on “Current Opportunities”.
  • Click on “Apply” (√) button.
  • Fill up the Form completely.
  • Before clicking the ‘Submit’ button make sure all the details are correct, all required documents are scanned in original & uploaded.
  • Online applications will be further scrutinized for eligibility and may be rejected if found not eligible in any respect.
  • Photograph - Make sure your photograph is good quality and has a BLUE BACKGROUND. Size of the photograph should be between 60 to 100 KB.
  • You may upload an application from Common Service Centres (CSC) across the country, against fixed fees of Rs 60 + GST. (This facility is entirely optional.)

Admit Card

Indian Navy Call Letter for CBT (computer-based test) will be available for downloading a few weeks before the exam. You can download your Indian Navy Call Letter from the official Indian Navy website.


Complete Indian Navy Exam will take place in 3 stages - (CBT, Physical Fitness Test, and Medical exam). You have to qualify the CBT first. Once the computer-based Test takes place, its result will be announced within 15 days, most probably with a mark sheet.

Approximately 1200 candidates (according to merit) will be called for PFT (Physical Fitness Test) and Initial Medical Exam, which may span across 1-2 days, at centers allocated by the Indian Navy.

Later, merit for candidates who have pass PFT and Initial Medical Examination will be published on the official website.

Note - Final selection will depend upon Fitness in Final Medical Examination at INS Chilka. Call letter for Final Medical Examination at INS Chilka will be E-mailed to selected candidates.

Official Notification

Notification for recruiting of Feb 2019 batch of Sailors (Artificer Apprentice) was announced in 2018. The applications were to be completed in June 2018 with exam scheduled to take place soon after. However, the CBT (Computer-based Test) kept getting postponed.
