What is Ratha Yatra?

The Ratha Yatra of Puri is considered the oldest and largest Hindu chariot festival celebrated annually at the city of Puri in the state of Odisha with deity Jagannath (Vishnu).

When is Ratha Yatra?

This year, the auspicious Rath Yatra will commence on June 20 at 10:04 PM and end on June 21 at 7:09 PM.

History of Ratha Yatra?

Subhadra, the sister of Lord Jagannath, had wish to visit Puri. Lord and his older brother set out to Puri with his sister to fulfil her desire. Since then, it is celebrated.


Every year, new chariots are constructed before Yatra and atleast 1400 carpenters build the chariot from scratch.


This festival is known to receive rainfall every year on the day of procession.

The english word "juggernaut" is derived from the word Jagannath.


The chariots looks like the temples

The canopies of chariots take about 1200 m of clothes.


Three enormous 18 wheeled chariots carrying gods are dragged by believers using ropes.

It attract both pilgrims and tourists to the Odisha state in milion.
